I asked for some recommendations for HTML link checkers on the Write the Docs Slack channel. Here’s what people recommended:
- Broken Link Checker – https://www.brokenlinkcheck.com/
- Xenu – http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html
- Muffet – https://github.com/raviqqe/muffet
- HTMLtest – https://github.com/wjdp/htmltest – much faster than html-proofer, although somewhat less configurable. For a 2,000+ page locally-generated static site, html-proofer took more than 9 minutes to verify all of the links. htmltest takes ~700ms. And as a single Go binary, htmltest is trivial to include in a CI context.
- HTML Proofer – https://github.com/gjtorikian/html-proofer
- SEO Spider – https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/ – SEO and link checker
- Integrity – https://peacockmedia.software/mac/integrity/free.html
- Check My Links – https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/check-my-links/ojkcdipcgfaekbeaelaapakgnjflfglf?hl=en
- Linkchecker – https://github.com/filiph/linkcheck
